Practicing Oral Hygiene for Healthy Gums

When we talk about maintaining oral hygiene, the common questions we get is how to take care of our teeth. What individuals fail to understand is taking care of your gums is equally important to maintain good oral health. Sometimes your gums need extra attention.
When you visit any of our three clinics for a scheduled consultation with our dentists, they check your gums for early signs of gingivitis, the first stage of periodontitis. It is caused by bacterial plaque buildup that often leads to swelling and painful gums.
We want our patients to be aware of gum care and understand that even if you already suffer from any kind of gum disease, the dental professionals at our clinics are here to guide you. Call one of our three clinics today to schedule an appointment with us.

What is Gum Disease?

Gums in good health are pink and firm and do not bleed or swell during brushing or flossing. They shouldn't be puffy and you shouldn't experience sensitivity or pain during brushing or other daily activities.
If you notice bleeding gum, it may be an early sign of periodontal disease. Other signs include bad breath, loose teeth, and swollen gums. When plaque builds up on the teeth and hardens into tartar, the bacteria release toxins that trigger an inflammatory response in the gums.
Gum disease has also been linked to serious health conditions, such as cardiovascular disease, stroke, heart disease, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, respiratory diseases, cancer, osteoporosis, Alzheimer's disease, and other health issues. Healthy gums are essential for maintaining overall health.
